Tackling America’s Mental Health and Addiction Crisis Through Primary Care Integration

This report addresses the need to integrate primary and behavioral health care to ensure that individuals with behavioral health conditions and comorbid physical health problems receive high-quality access to care. It describes barriers to such integration and recommends steps to overcome them, including establishing core service and quality standards, providing financial incentives and requiring accountability for integrated care delivery, creating a nationwide technical assistance program, and promoting use of electronic health records and other technology to support integrated care.
